Ten killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of ten people killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of May 6, 297 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 356 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists 13 in 2018 and 16 in 2017. Oconee County has experienced four traffic deaths in 2018 compared to six in 2017 at this same time. Pickens County reports four in 2018 and seven in 2017. Of the 219 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 111 were not wearing seat belts. Through May 6, 41 pedestrians have died compared to 52 in 2017; 29 motorcyclists have died compared to 37 in 2017; and five bicyclists have died compared to seven in 2017 on state roadways.
