Theft at Site of New Walhalla High School

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help regarding a reported theft of copper from the construction site of the new Walhalla High School in the Picket Post Community on Highway 11.  Investigators report that the theft occurred either Wednesday night or early Thursday morning sometime between 8pm and 4am. Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt gives details.  “The subject(s) reportedly cut the copper that had already been installed and got away with 273 feet of copper, which investigators value at more than $2,000.  Investigators say the theft occurred in a part of the new school building and the copper was taken out of the walls.  The Sheriff’s Office currently does not have any suspects and the investigation is continuing.” Anyone with information on this copper theft from the construction site of the new Walhalla High School is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 638-STOP or text in your tip to 274637.  You don’t have to give your name and if your tip leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
