They’re Coming To America – and The Upstate

Afghan refugees will be arriving in the Clemson/Seneca area this weekend and for the next several weeks. Lutheran Services Carolinas, a faith-based health and human services nonprofit, is working with local churches and other faith communities to help.

One of those local churches is Clemson Presbyterian, where Norm McGee is a member and one of several volunteers who are helping to resettle the refugees, many of whom have previously worked in Afghanistan with the US Military…

Lutheran Services New Americans Program has been resettling refugees in the Carolinas since 1979. Some are currently being resettled in Greenville and Clemson, however, so far, none have been resettled here in Oconee County. In a statement, the New Americans Program said they “only assist legal, fully vetted refugees who are here by invitation of the US Government.”
