Think Oconee giving Thanks

In November, Destination Oconee and the Oconee Economic Alliance celebrated the one year anniversary of the Think Oconee campaign, which encourages residents to shop local. As part of that anniversary celebration, Think Oconee Thursday was launched, explains Destination Oconee Manager Janet Hartman. “Think Oconee in October was 1-year-old. Hard to believe that green decal has been around that long because it seems like just yesterday we were trying to come up with a fun logo to put towards the buy local campaign. But Think Oconee was a year old, so we started to talk about how do we really get some bang for our buck, so for the month of November we did Think Oconee Thursday and we developed #ThinkOconee and #ThinkOconeeThursday. We partnered with five different businesses to offer a gift certificate to those who would post on our social media a picture of where they see that Think Oconee decal throughout the county. We had some fun ones; we had some where they found them on recycle binds, they found them on vehicles or just held the decal themselves in a very picturesque space. So, it was really fun and we would like to continue to expand on that but really thanks to 94.1 The Lake for promoting and then the businesses that participated because again Think Oconee is trying to get folks to change their mindset as to always thinking local before they go outside of the county. So, thanks to Green Springs on Ram Cat Alley, 28 West in downtown Walhalla, Walhalla Art Works, Sole Grill and Sushi Bar in Seneca and the Beer Station located in Bountyland. They all want to get on board because they too know how important it is to get the local folks thinking and shopping local.” Think Oconee decal stickers are still available and you can pick one up at the Oconee Economic Alliance office on Highway 123 in Seneca, near the Copper River restaurant.
