Three killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three people killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of June 3, 407 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 449 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists 20 traffic fatalities in 2018 compared to 19 in 2017 at this same time. Oconee County reports six traffic related deaths each of the past two years at this same time. Pickens County has experienced seven fatalities each of the past two years at this same time. Of the 291 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 145 were not wearing seat belts. Through June 3, 61 pedestrians have died compared to 58 in 2017; 40 motorcyclists have died compared to 47 in 2017; and six bicyclists have died compared to eight in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on June 3, 2018.
