Three Rescues By Walhalla Emergency Services Over the Weekend

Walhalla Fire and EMS responded to two emergencies at Issaqueena Falls, north of Walhalla, over the weekend. Saturday afternoon, an adult male was at the base of the falls and was reportedly overcome with exhaustion. He was treated and assisted out of the trail by Walhalla Fire, Walhalla PD, and Prisma EMS. On Sunday, a juvenile male fell on the trail to the fails and sustained a head injury. Firefighters And Walhalla PD arrived and began care of the patient. In both incidents, the patients were each taken by Prisma EMS to Oconee Memorial for observation.

City of Walhalla Fire, Mountain Rest Fire and Rescue, Oconee County Emergency Services, and Prisma Health EMS all responded to another injured hiker, this one on the Yellow Branch trail, Sunday afternoon around 4:15 pm. Upon arrival and assessment, more resources were needed to remove the hiker from the trail. It took about 30 minutes to reached the injured female hiker, and a little over an hour to extricate the hiker using a wheel and stokes basket. The incident concluded successfully and there were no responder injuries. Walhalla Fire would like to remind everyone to wear appropriate footwear when hiking the area trails, be careful of rocks, which are slippery year round, and take plenty of water to drink.
