Three Weekend Highway Deaths

Three people lost their lives on state roads and highways over the weekend.  The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the three deaths occurred from Friday, July 12, at 6pm until Sunday, July 14, at midnight.  As of July 14,  363 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 451 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. In Oconee County, one highway death has been reported in 2013 compared to eight in 2012.  Pickens County lists eight in 2013 and ten in 2012.  Anderson County has experienced a decline in highways deaths with 14 reported in 2013 compared to 25 in 2012.  Of the 363 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 152 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight July 14, 38 pedestrians, 55 motorcyclists and 6 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight July 14, 2013.
