Tips on making Healthy Choices
When was the last time you really felt good? Well, the food you eat has a lot to do with how you feel, says Health Coach Ellen Hotz. “People don’t stop to realize that everything you put in your body requires energy to process. When people say they are tired all the time, one of the reasons, it is not the only one but one of the reasons is because they are having such a hard time digesting their food. They are hungry because they are eating food that does not have many nutrients. Well, your body is saying you feed me calories, you gave me “food” but you did not give me nutrition, you did not give me the tools I need to keep building and having the energy. That is why people continue to over eat.” Reading food labels is the first step to eating healthy says Hotz. “When you start to read food labels, first of all, the first ingredients that are listed are the ones in the largest percentage in that product. But you do want to look for things that have the minimum number of ingredients on a label.” Hotz says many people fail to take advantage of a great local food source this time of year. “I can’t emphasis enough to get back to fresh foods. We are going into the summer season and we have Farmer’s Markets in Seneca, Westminster, Six Mile and the Clemson Area Food Exchange, so, there is no reason why we cannot go. You probably have a neighbor that has excess food growing in their garden.” No one diet or lifestyle works for everyone. Moreover, dietary needs change as our bodies change.
