TRAFFIC CHECKPOINTS WERE COMMON OVER NEW YEAR’S

As the calendar turned last week to the year 2020, Oconee County sheriff’s officers and state constables conducted safety traffic checkpoints in which citations were issued and, in some cases, the drivers were removed from behind the wheel and sent to jail. Two of the checkpoints occurred in the Westminster area, with one taking place at Mountain Road at Clearmont Road and the other at Toccoa Highway at Hobson Street. The third checkpoint occurred near Seneca at Shiloh Road at JP Stevens Road. The Sheriff’s Office released these statistics by categories :

Driving under Suspension: 5
Open Container Violations: 3
Driver License Violations: 1
Seat Belt Violations: 1
Child Restraint Violations: 4
Misdemeanor Drug Charges: 9
Felony Drugs: 3
