Traffic Stalled on I-85 After Early AM Crash

Update from Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis: A multiple vehicle collision early Tuesday morning on I-85 at Exit 2 has resulted in the death of a 34 year-old Buford, GA man. This collision occurred at approximately 6:00 am.

The deceased is identified as Rafael B. Veloz. Mr. Veloz was found entrapped within his vehicle; he was extricated and EMS provided life support measures. However, he died at the scene at 7:10 am. His cause of death is blunt force chest trauma and his manner of death is Accidental.

All lanes of travel on I-85 were blocked this morning due to crash on I-85 Southbound between Exit 2 SC-59 Lakeshore Dr and Exit 1 SC-11. The SCHP is investigating. Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway reported that  4 vehicles were involved, 1 a tractor trailer. He also confirmed 1 fatality in relation to this accident. Both sides of I-85 are shut down. Detour northbound- exit 2 to 4; Detour southbound – exit 4 to 2
