TV NETWORK TO RECALL LAVONIA, GEORGIA POLICE SHOOTINGS

December 13, 2018 Dick Mangrum
A two-year anniversary has been marked in Lavonia, Georgia of a day likely never to be forgotten in that northeast Georgia city as well in Franklin County. Two years ago, Capt. Michael Shulman and Officer Jeffrey Martin, were shot while conducting a traffic stop in a Zaxby’s parking lot. Shulman spent several days in the hospital as a result of the shooting. Both Shulman and Martin recovered from their injuries and have since left the department and gone on to other careers. While a horrific incident, it is possible some good can come from it and the officers, as well as Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle, are hoping something has. “Back in the summer of this year, a group from London (England) contacted me and advised they were a production company from London named Arrow International Media Limited, and they were interested in using that story in a new series that would be coming out this fall on Investigation Discovery Channel. What this series is about is using body camera so the public can see exactly what law enforcement officers go through. After much back-and-forth negotiating, the district attorney and I agreed to allow them to run this story and they were here for a number of days filming, said Carlisle. The program will premiere on the Investigation Discovery Network, next week Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 10 p.m.” The footage to be shown is actual footage recorded by the officer’s body cameras.
