Two Men Arrested by OCSO Deputies for Criminal Sexual Conduct

Michael Matthew Banks, 37, of Townville, is being held on a $25,000 surety bond after being arrested on December 13th and charged with Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office began investigating on November 13th after a report of a sexual assault on a minor that occurred on October 18th. Evidence indicated Banks inappropriately touched a child on that date. Banks will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device if released on bond. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.

Steven Lee Sherman

In another investigation, Steven Lee Sherman, 34, of Seneca, remains in the Oconee County Detention Center after bond was denied on all charges following his December 13th arrest for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor. Sherman is charged with two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor and one count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. An investigation initiated on October 25th revealed Sherman provided alcohol to a minor victim on July 5th and subsequently sexually assaulted the victim on two separate occasions that day. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
