Two Men Drown at Lake Hartwell Boat Ramp

A tragic double drowning over the holiday weekend claimed the lives of two men at Lake Hartwell’s Singing Pines boat ramp Saturday afternoon. According to the Anderson County Coroner, 24-year-old Eimer Jean Diaz Morales, of Mexico, and 41-year-old Felix Fernando Lopez, of Guatemala, were wading in the lake around 5:00 p.m. when they stepped into an unexpected drop-off roughly eight to ten feet deep. Neither man could swim, and when one struggled, the other attempted a rescue, causing both to submerge about 43 feet from the shore. Dive teams recovered both victims quickly, but despite resuscitation efforts at the scene, both men were pronounced dead upon arrival at AnMed.
