Update on OHC’s Let the Light Shine Project

The Oconee Heritage Center’s “Let the Light Shine” project has reached the halfway point and things are much brighter now at the museum says curator and director Leslie White.  “That has gone very well; it’s a real testament to how concerned people around here are for the environment as well as their history.  It was an initiative that we started to improve the care of our artifacts by changing all of the lighting in the museum to LED, which omits no UV rays that damage paper and those delicate things.  At the same time, it also saves us some money.  We are a non-profit and admission to the museum, so saving money on our utilities was very important.” One particular volunteer has made a huge difference on the project, adds White.  “We have a wonderful volunteer, Brandon Massey of Green Energy Systems, who has volunteered to come in and help us with that project to improve the lighting and we have done the first phase which is the upper level lighting.  It looks awesome!  If you come in regularly, you will notice a difference.  He is working on the lower level now and we have also better illuminated the Chattooga Canoe with some LED lights.” On behalf of the Oconee Heritage Center, White thanks the community for contributions to the “Let the Light Shine” project and says funds are still being accepted.  For more information, call the Oconee Heritage Center at (864) 638-2224 or email them at [email protected].
