Update on Sewer Project underway in Westminster

A project for over a year in the making is underway in the City of Westminster. Tugaloo Pipeline Inc. has started work on a sewer line replacement project on Park and Pritchard Streets. Westminster Mayor Brian Ramey gives details. “The Park and Pritchard Streets Project is a $586,000 sewer upgrade and repair, most of which was paid for with a Rural Infrastructure grant along with a Joint Regional Sewer Authority grant. The city and all cities have this, we have sewer lines that have been in the ground for sometimes 50-80 years and they eventually start breaking down. When they break down it allows for infiltration from rain water and storm water to get into the sewer system, which goes through the system and goes through the meters and the city has to pay for having that water treated. So, it is a really big expense on the city treating rain water that we cannot bill for. So, these projects help control that, help stop the rain water from getting into these pipes and it also keeps it from leaking out and getting into the ground water.” Portions of Park and Pritchard Streets will be closed for this underground pipeline work, but in the end the project will be very beneficial, adds Mayor Ramey. “It will be beneficial to everybody in the city and it will actually be beneficial to the other member cities that are part of the sewer authority.” The contract calls for work to be completed in 150 days, but Mayor Ramey says that is an optimistic estimate. “Well, getting started this time of year, you know what the weather does in the winter time, so it could be two months or it could be four, so we are hoping for the best case.” The project consists of constructing 3,640 feet of 8″ replacement sanitary sewer collector line including 22 manholes, 28 service connections and pavement restoration along Park and Pritchard Streets.
