Update on Walhalla Civic Auditorium Roof Project
The Board of Directors of the Walhalla Civic Auditorium began a fundraising campaign last year for roof repairs to its more than 100-year-old building, explains Walhalla Civic Auditorium executive director Bill Chisano. “That is ongoing and it is never going to stop even when we get the Auditorium roof done, we have three other roofs that need work. It is going to be an ongoing project for us for the foreseeable future.” The roof work will consist of repairs to existing leaks, installing new drains, scrapping off old coating and installing Hydro-Stop foundation coating to avoid future leaks. The cost for this work on all four buildings in the Walhalla Civic Auditorium complex is $90,000. Chisano gives an update on the initial roof repair project. “We are at the point now where we have generated enough money where we have got final bids, we know what the project is going to cost, we have assigned it to a contract, who has won the bid and they are just waiting to get started. They need a week’s forecast of no rain, which we have not had since November, so we are waiting. It will probably be sometime in the spring when the project gets started and they actually start doing work on the roof but we are at the point now where they can start on it.” The Auditorium is still taking donations for its roof repair fundraising campaign, adds Chisano. “We still need money if anybody out there is predisposed to have a little extra cash that they would like to donate to the Walhalla Civic Auditorium; we are a non-profit organization, so it is tax deductible.” The Walhalla Civic Auditorium is one of Upstate South Carolina’s premier entertainment venues that specialize in live concerts, theater productions and community events. As moneys are received, the work will be completed in stages, the first being the Auditorium roof, then the main building, the back building and then the stage roof.
