Update on Westminster Homicide Investigation

The investigation continues into a Westminster homicide and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office wants residents to know that any information they might have could be key to solving the case, says Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “We are continuing our investigation into the death of Ms. McCarty and what we are requesting from the public is for their continued help in providing information to us, either directly through our non-emergency line at the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, 864-638-4111, or through Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Whatever the case may be, citizens that may have some information even if they think that information is not very important or may be insignificant, it could be information that could help us to be able to solve this case. So, just once again we are just asking for our citizens if you have information, please come forward and contact us. If you would like to remain anonymous you can do that through Crimestoppers at 1-88-CRIME-SC.” On Nov. 26, 74-year-old Joann McCarthy was found dead inside her home on Creekwood Lane in Westminster. An autopsy determined that she died from a single gunshot wound and her manner of death was determined to be a homicide.
