Upstate Affected by Global Internet Outage

A global internet outage on Friday disrupted airlines, businesses, media, and offices in the Upstate. According to the Associated Press, Microsoft users worldwide, including banks and airlines, reported widespread outages after the company said it was gradually fixing an issue affecting Microsoft 365 apps and services.

The Federal Aviation Administration grounded several airlines, including United, Allegiant, Delta, and American, due to communication issues, causing delays and cancellations at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. Many Upstate businesses, including gas stations and banks, switched to cash-only transactions. Affected Upstate businesses included the Peace Center, Fuji Film in Greenwood, TD Bank, Bank of America, Home Depot, Spinx on Batesville Road in Spartanburg, and BorgWarner Inc. in Seneca.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike stated that the issue was not a cyberattack but a problem with a faulty update to Microsoft Windows, which the company was working to fix.
