Upstate Municipalities Receive Federal Brownfield Grants
Walhalla is one of four Upstate municipalities, along with Pickens, Gaffney, and Pacolet, slated to benefit from a $1.2 million federal Brownfield grant awarded to the Greenville-based government service agency A-COG (Appalachian Council of Governments), part of the 23 recipients across the EPA’s Southeast Region, three of which are in South Carolina; this funding, announced today, aims “to assess, clean up and revitalize local lands,” with EPA Administrator Zeldin noting that “EPA’s Brownfields Program demonstrates how environmental stewardship and economic prosperity complement each other,” and an official from the SC Appalachian Council of Governments, Jill Charlton, confirming Walhalla’s interest in redeveloping the former Chicopee manufacturing plant property…
