USA Today spotlights OC Waterfalls

If you see more cars from out of town parked at recreation areas in Oconee County this spring, you can thank the USA Today.  The national newspaper recently ran an article on Oconee County’s beautiful lakes and waterfalls, explains Mountain Lakes Convention and Visitors Bureau president and CEO Ken Sloan.  “Blake Guthrie is a free lance writer I met on a media blitz a couple of years ago in Atlanta.  I brought him out here and we spent three days touring the county and he feel in love with the area.  Lake Jocassee was one of his favorite spots.  Blake was fascinated by the lake’s short drive from Atlanta, so that was kind of his focus of his writing.  A weekend or a day trip, just two hours away from Atlanta to an undiscovered area of waterfalls, rivers and mountains that people in Atlanta just don’t know exist.  So, I am very appreciative of Blake and his efforts to provide us with this fantastic publicity.” Guthrie’s article highlights Lake Jocassee waterfalls, like Laurel Fork Falls. However, many of the waterfalls on Lake Jocassee are unnamed and can be found at the end of coves on the northern half of the lake. Two of the more spectacular falls that Guthrie writes about are Wrights Creek Falls and Mills Creek Falls.  To read the complete article, visit the USA Today website and search for Oconee County waterfalls.
