Usher Syndrome Awareness Month in Seneca

Seneca’s Mayor Dan Alexander is getting ready to issue a proclamation recognizing September as Usher Syndrome Awareness Month…

Usher Syndrome is a relatively rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in any one of at least 11 genes resulting in a combination of hearing loss and visual impairment, and is a leading cause of combined deafness and blindness in as many as 25,000 Americans.

Mayor Alexander said he wants to bring awareness about Usher syndrome, which is incurable presently, and to those affected by the Usher syndrome, who may suffer from depression and anxiety. Mayor Alexander is declaring September 19th Usher Syndrome Awareness Day in Seneca.
