Utility Providers Work Through Winter Storm to Restore Power
This weekend’s winter storm left thousands of area residents in the cold and dark with numerous power outages reported.
Early this morning, Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative had 782 customers in Pickens County and 2,219 customers in Oconee County who were without power. Duke Energy reported 2,385 without power in Oconee County, 1,322 in Pickens County and 202 in Anderson County.
The City of Westminster lost power Sunday morning, but within an hour or two there was progress in restoring service. A problem encountered by utility crews in Westminster was that, as one line became reenergized, another tree would fall and cause another outage.
