Walhalla and YMCA partner for Pool Programs
Swimming lessons are coming back to Oconee County this summer. Thanks to a partnership between the City of Walhalla and the Foothills Area YMCA, several summer activities are planned. Darlene Green, President of the Board of Directors for the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce, is excited about this new collaboration bringing summer activities to the Golden Corner. “The City of Walhalla in collaboration with the Foothills YMCA is going to be offering some great opportunities for the community at the Walhalla City Pool this summer. The YMCA is going to facilitate swim lessons, water aeorbics classes and other functions there at the pool including some summer camps. I think they are talking about tennis and basketball, but definitely the swim lessons for children and adults.” Knowing how to swim is vital here in the Upstate with so many lakes, continues Green. “In this lake area where we live it is very important that children and adults know how to swim and know water safety, so we are excited that we are able to support this through the Chamber of Commerce and very proud of the Foothills YMCA and City of Walhalla for this partnership, I think it is going to be really successful.” The Walhalla City Pool, operated by the Foothills Area YMCA, plans to open the week of Memorial Day.
