Walhalla Approves Police Station Funding

At its Tuesday meeting, Walhalla City Council made significant strides in advancing local projects and planning for the future. A key item was the approval of a $4.25 million appropriation from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety for a new police station. The station will be located at 205 S. John St., a 2.75-acre site that includes the former restaurant and house, which will be modernized for the department’s needs. Police Chief Tim Rice expressed confidence in the location’s centrality and accessibility. The city has already entered an agreement to purchase the property for $400,000, though the deal is still in the due diligence phase. This funding was made possible by State Sen. President Thomas Alexander and Rep. Bill Whitmire.
