Walhalla Begins Major Water Main Upgrade on S. Tugaloo Street

The City of Walhalla has announced the first switch to new water mains on South Tugaloo Street, marking a major step in a $10 million water and sewer infrastructure upgrade. This extensive project is funded by South Carolina’s Rural Infrastructure Authority and aims to modernize aging systems, some of which date back to the 1920s. The water line improvements are expected to be completed in the spring and will significantly enhance water capacity and quality. These upgrades are designed to reduce service disruptions and improve water flow, particularly for firefighting needs. Contractors are currently laying new pipe along NW Broad Street, W. Main Street, SW Broad Street, and surrounding side streets. During construction, residents may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and lower-than-normal pressure levels. City officials appreciate the community’s patience as they work to deliver long-term improvements to Walhalla’s water infrastructure.
