Walhalla City Council Approves Agreements and Sets 2025 Roles

At its meeting this week, Walhalla City Council approved continuing water service to West Union and authorized the City Administrator to pursue a real estate agreement for City-owned property.

Council tabled Ordinance 2024-16, maintaining the five-minute public comment limit, and passed Ordinance 2025-01 on first reading to amend the budget, incorporating a $4.25 million SC Public Safety Department appropriation for a new police station and higher-than-expected HTAX revenues. Ordinance 2025-02 was also approved on first reading, allowing a $200,000 five-year lease purchase for a track hoe to maintain sediment ponds and support city water and sewer projects.

Council recognized February as Black History Month and American Heart Month, received resignations from Mr. Pace and Mr. Thomas, and expressed appreciation for their service.

Council roles for 2025 include Josh Holliday as Mayor Pro Tem, with committee chairs as follows: Public Utilities – Kenny Johns, Public Safety – Grant Keehn, Parks & Recreation – Sarai Melendez, Public Works – Vacant (Josh Holliday acting), Finance – Josh Holliday, and Planning & Community Development – Vacant (Sarai Melendez acting), with all council members serving on General Government.
