Walhalla Man arrested on Outstanding Warrants

On Monday, Aug. 20, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Walhalla man on outstanding warrants for first degree burglary and petit larceny. Booked into the Oconee County Detention Center was 46-year-old Johnny Dean Mathis. He was taken into custody initially by the Clemson Police Department. Custody was then transferred to deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, who booked Mathis into the Oconee County Detention Center. During the evening hours of June 1, 2016, deputies responded to an address on Petty Road near Seneca in regards to reports of a burglary. The victim reported that a backpack blower had been taken from the residence. A Crime Scene Technician was called and responded to the residence as the investigation began and evidence was gathered in the case. The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. As the investigation continued, it was determined that Mathis entered the residence during the night, upon which Mathis stole the Husqvarna Leaf Blower and other items as well. Mathis was released from the Oconee County Detention Center on Aug. 20, on a combined $15,000 personal recognizance bond. He was also required to wear an electronic monitoring device as a condition of bond.
