Walhalla Man Working to Recognize Unsung Heroes of Baseball

On Thursday, Major League Baseball honored the Negro Leagues with its first regular-season game in Alabama, while South Carolina’s connection to this history is being highlighted by the “Out of the Shadows” project. Scott Busch, a Walhalla man, is dedicated to educating people about the state’s overlooked baseball players. He shares Upstate Negro Leagues history at events like the Greenville Drive’s Juneteenth celebration, emphasizing that these athletes are integral to American and South Carolina history. Busch’s displays reveal stories that shock and educate fans, including that of the four Taylor brothers from Anderson, one of whom is in the Baseball Hall of Fame but none in the South Carolina Hall of Fame. Busch has even created his own Hall of Fame and is working to get the Taylors’ house designated as a historical landmark, hoping to one day secure their induction into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.
