Walhalla Police Department Files Charges In Fatal Weekend Accident

(Seneca, SC)——————-The Walhalla Police Department has filed charges in their investigation into a fatal two vehicle accident that occurred Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm at the intersection of West South Broad Street and South Cedar Street. According to Walhalla Police Chief Sean Brinson, 29 year old Robert Alan Pelfrey has been charged with Felony DUI Resulting in Death, Driving Under Suspension and a violation for a Broken Seal for Liquor. Pelfrey was transported to Prisma Health – Oconee Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries after the accident and upon his release, was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center. Pelfrey also had outstanding arrest warrants for charges of Grand Larceny and Entering Premises Without Warning, according to records from the Detention Center. Pelfrey remains in custody at the Detention Center at this time. 

The accident Saturday afternoon claimed the life of 76 year old Lois Faye Winkler, who was the front passenger in a vehicle that was struck by the vehicle driven by Pelfrey. According to Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis, Winkler was a front seat passenger and was wearing a seat belt and died at the scene from blur force trauma injuries. The driver of the vehicle that Winkler was the passenger in was transported to Prisma Health – Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to Chief Brinson. 

The Walhalla Police Department is continuing their investigation.
