Walhalla Secures Funding for New Water and Sewer Upgrades

The City of Walhalla has received approval from the SC Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) for additional water and sewer projects, part of a $10 million initiative. The new projects, costing $2.38 million, include sewer line and manhole rehabilitation in the Cane Creek basin and water line upgrades along Westminster Hwy near Oak Grove Rd and SC Hwy 11.

These involve installing CIPP lining for sewer mains and 6”, 8”, and 10” ductile iron pipes for water lines. Funded by savings from prior SCIIP projects, the work will use existing contractors and be reviewed by City Council in October. These upgrades enhance public health, safety, and economic growth, with studies showing $1 million in water infrastructure investment generates about 15 jobs (US Water Alliance, 2017).
