Walhalla Woman arrested on Drug and Weapon Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Walhalla woman Sunday on a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Booked into the Oconee County Detention Center was 36-year-old Rebecca Lynn Jones of Stribling Shoals Road. She has also been served a warrant for a probation violation. Also arrested in the same incident was 30-year-old Jonathan Paul Craig of Overbrook Drive in Seneca on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division on routine patrol observed a vehicle cross the center line into the wrong lane of travel and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Rick Kelley Lane and Stacey Kelley Drive near Seneca. Deputies made contact with Craig, who was the driver of the vehicle and Jones, who was the passenger. A check with dispatch revealed that Jones had an outstanding warrant through the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardons. A search of Craig’s person produced a container and after obtaining permission from Craig to open the container, the deputy discovered a quantity of prescription medication inside for which Craig did not have a prescription. Craig also informed the deputy that there was possibly drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Jones informed the deputy that there were narcotics in her bags in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle conducted by the deputies produced a firearm in Jones’ bag and some clear plastic bags that contained a quantity of methamphetamine. Jones and Craig were placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.
