Weinackers Restaurant consumed in Fire

Shortly after midnight, Oconee County firefighters were dispatched to Weinackers Restaurant on Coneross Creek Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building well involved in fire. Approximately 60 firefighters from Oconee and Anderson counties were able to bring the fire under control within 90 minutes from arrival.  Units responding to the scene were Crossroads, Oakway, Friendship, Fairplay, and South Union stations in Oconee County.  Townville, Zion, and Double Springs in Anderson County also assisted with extinguishing the blaze.  The Oakway Rescue Squad and American Red Cross were on scene as well providing aid. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Fire investigators will remain on the scene throughout the day to determine the cause of the fire.  Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King said, “The fire completely destroyed Weinackers Restaurant, which had been in operation for over 30 years.”
