West-Oak High School participates in College Application Month

As part of a national effort to promote October as College Application Month, all West-Oak High School seniors were recently encouraged to apply to college. During this time, 188 seniors sent 295 applications to over 47 different colleges. Tri-County Technical College, Lander University, Clemson University and Coastal Carolina were top application choices by the students. West Oak High School’s theme for College Application Month is “Applying to College is a Snap.” Students were able to Snapchat using a special geo-filter created by the counseling department specifically for West-Oak High School. To date, the students have shared their photos on Snapchat and have had their Snapchat stories viewed over 6,000 times. The goal of the West-Oak High School Counseling department is 100% participation in the month’s events. In addition to seniors applying to college, 9-11th graders also participated in college awareness activities through their TRIBE classes. College fight songs were played during announcements and faculty participated by wearing college attire on Thursdays. Counselors are preparing for the second step in the college application process. A Financial Aid Night is planned for Nov. 7, at 6pm in the West-Oak High School Media Center. A Counselor from Tri-County Technical College’s Financial Aid Department will be available to help students apply for financial aid. All West-Oak High School seniors and parents are encouraged to attend.
