West-Oak Middle School signs FFA Charter

On Oct. 17, 2017, five members of the newly formed West-Oak Middle School FFA Chapter traveled to Columbia to attend a charter signing ceremony at the South Carolina State Fair. Every year the South Carolina State Fair holds FFA Day, which is a celebration of the partnership between the fair and the South Carolina FFA Association. The South Carolina FFA Association conducts a presentation for all FFA chapters and supporters that attend the fair. This year was a special presentation for West-Oak Middle School as they were honored in a ceremony to establish the newly formed FFA chapter at the school. In attendance were five of the chapter members; Brayden Bramlett, Lindley Fields, Caden Moncus, Kaitlyn Pinkston, and Brooklyn Smith, as well as FFA Advisor Nina Ambrose and school principal Dr. Brandon Blackwell. The ceremony was conducted by the South Carolina FFA State Officer team. Along with West-Oak Middle School’s group, three other new chapters signed their official charters. After the ceremony the students got to enjoy the fun of the South Carolina State Fair while learning about agriculture in our state. This new chapter is an exciting addition to the existing programs at the middle school and is busy planning exciting events and competitions for the members. The chapter will elect chapter officers in the coming weeks and those students will be involved in organizing the events. The mission of the National FFA Organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The newly formed West-Oak Middle School FFA Chapter looks to continue this mission in the community and develop great leaders for the future.
