Westminster Electric Rates increasing

Electric power rates are going up in the City of Westminster.  At their monthly meeting Tuesday night, the Westminster City Council unanimously passed a 7.3% increase on retail electric power rates, explains Westminster City Administrator David Smith. “Our wholesales cost of power is going up and the cost to us this year is 7.3% higher than it was in the prior year.  Therefore, the Council voted to pass that 7.3% increase along to the retail rates and so a residential customer that uses 1,000-kilowatt hours would see about a $10 a month increase in their bill.  It is about $10.04 is what it would calculate to be.  If they use less kilowatt hours, the impact would be less and if they use more the impact would be greater, but as a rule of thumb you generally compare 1,000-kilowatt an hour customers.” The increase will take effect in May and show up on June’s bills.
