Westminster hires New Police Chief

The City of Westminster has its new Police Chief.  After an extensive search, the City of Westminster hired Dean Awalt to be its new Police Chief.  Westminster City Administrator David Smith gives details.  “We had 26 applications, conducted a number of interviews and finally made our decision that the position will be going to Dean Awalt, who is currently employed with the Seneca Police Department and he will be our Police Chief effective December 28th.” Awalt succeeds Scott Bannister as Westminster Police Chief, following a brief interim appointment of Oconee County Sheriff-elect Mike Crenshaw in the fall.  Westminster also promoted Patrolman Rory Jones to Lieutenant.  As such, Jones will serve as second in command and act as chief when Awalt is absent.
