Westminster Library to celebrate Shark Week

For one week every summer the world becomes obsessed with sharks thanks to The Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week programming. Since its debut on July 17, 1988, Shark Week has grown in popularity and has become one of the most anticipated events of the summer. In celebration of Shark Week’s 30th anniversary, the Westminster Branch of the Oconee County Public Library (OCPL) is hosting two special events, tells OCPL Director Blair Hinson. “Shark movie enthusiasts can enjoy a full day of great shark movies on Monday, July 16. The marathon starts off with The Shallows at 2pm, followed by the animated Shark Tale at 4pm. The day will conclude with the classic Jaws at 6pm. Free popcorn and drinks will be served. Come watch one or stay and watch them all. The second event will be the kid-friendly Shark Party on Wednesday, July 18, at 3pm. Swim on over if you dare, to a party you can sink your teeth into! We will have shark themed stories, games, snacks, and a craft. This program is free for children ages 3 and older with a caregiver. If you can’t attend either event, don’t worry! Whether you want to be scared or have a good laugh, the library has a vast array of shark movies and books that can be checked out.” For more information, call the Westminster Library at 864-364-5760.
