Westminster Man arrested on Drug and Weapons Charges after Traffic Stop

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster early Monday morning after a traffic stop on drug and weapons charges. Booked into the Oconee County Detention Center was 49-year-old Scottie Lane Gray of Dr. John’s Road. A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division on routine patrol late Sunday night observed a vehicle disregard a stop sign at Earles Grove Road at Highway 59 near Fair Play. The vehicle then accelerated to a high rate of speed upon which the deputy caught up with the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Rodgers Road near Highway 59 with the vehicle pulling into a driveway of a residence where Gray said he did not live nor knew who lived there. The deputy asked the driver, Gray, to exit the vehicle after noticing a firearm inside the vehicle in plain view. The deputy also observed the tag on the vehicle had expired. The deputy placed Gray under arrest and requested a wrecker to be called to the scene to tow the vehicle. An inventory of the vehicle by deputies produced a bag that contained a quantity of methamphetamine in the floorboard on the driver’s side. Gray was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center where he has been charged with one count each of trafficking in methamphetamine and unlawful carrying of a pistol. The approximate weight of the methamphetamine discovered is 16.6 grams, according to deputies, with a street value of around $1,660. Gray was also issued a citation for reckless driving.
