Westminster Man arrested on Drug Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster area man on drug charges this week during routine road patrol operations.  Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt gives details.  “An officer from the Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a GMC truck for not using a turn signal as it turned onto Wells Highway from Highway 59.  The driver was identified as Chad James Dimitroff.  According to the incident report, the deputy could tell that Dimitroff was acting uncomfortably and appeared to be shaking.  Dimitroff told the deputy upon being asked that there was nothing in the vehicle and that the vehicle belonged to a friend and he was just borrowing it.  The officer asked Dimitroff for consent to search the vehicle, which was denied.  The deputy’s K-9 was then used which alerted the deputy to the driver’s side door.  A black container was seen inside the driver’s side door.  Upon opening the container, the deputy saw a medicine bottle that contained plastic inside.  When the deputy opened the container, several plastic tied items fell out of the bottle, which appeared to contain methamphetamine.  Dimitroff was arrested and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.” The 20-year-old was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance.
