Westminster Man Charged with Multiple Trailer Thefts

(Walhalla, SC)—–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Westminster man with three trailer thefts after his arrest Tuesday. 

The Sheriff’s Office has charged 48 year old James Joseph Haight of Meadowlark Drive with two counts of Grand Larceny and one count of Petit Larceny. Haight was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at 2:38pm Tuesday.

Haight also had an arrest warrant on a charge of Petit Larceny from the Westminster Police Department.

According to investigators, Haight stole a 5’x 9’ utility trailer from an address on Clearmont Road near Westminster sometime in early December of 2021. Also in early December of last year, Haight allegedly stole a Top Hat Dump Trailer from an address on Hefner Road and S. Highway 11 near Walhalla. Haight was additionally charged with stealing a homemade utility trailer and three appliances from an address on Crossroads Drive in Seneca on or about December 27th of last year.

Investigators believe that Haight may have been involved in other trailer thefts inside Oconee County. Anyone who has had a utility trailer theft or may have bought a utility trailer from 48 year old James Joseph Haight is asked  asked to call Investigator Clay Sheriff with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office at 864-638-4111.

At this time, Haight remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $17,000 surety bond on the Sheriff’s Office charges. He was given a $1,087.50 personal recognizance bond on the charge filed against him by the Westminster Police Department.
