Westminster Political Forum Recap

Last night’s Westminster political forum saw only four city council candidates participate due to late no-shows: Jimmy Powell, Charles Morgan, and James Jones attended in-person, while Susan Ramey joined via cell phone. Mayor Brian Ramey noted that absent candidate Dale Glymph had a family obligation. Candidate Andrea Harbin told us yesterday afternoon she would not be in attendance due to work obligations.

A small audience gathered in the Depot community room on a rainy evening, including one resident who expressed a strong interest in the city’s progress. The forum, formatted similarly to prior Oconee Republican Party events, included introductory remarks, responses to prepared questions, and closing comments. Candidates addressed Westminster’s continued membership in an Upstate municipal power consortium.

Moderator JR Slack posed unique questions to each candidate, including one to James Jones: “Does a town of 2,400 residents like Westminster need both a Town Administrator and an Assistant Administrator?” Jones responded, suggesting that Westminster, Oconee’s third largest municipality, likely does not require both roles…
