Westminster Shooting Under Investigation

Update from OCSO:

Oconee County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a shooting reported Wednesday night in the area of Sims Street near Westminster. Reports sate that a female subject was shot in the back. She was removed from the scene by paramedics and taken to an area hospital.

According to warrants, 59 year-old Donnie Wayne Wheeler was booked into jail on charges of high and aggravated domestic violence, as well as a methamphetamine charge. A report from the Sheriff’s Office stated that Wheeler called 911 to report that he’d “accidentally” shot his girlfriend with a .380 Hi-Point handgun.

The report went on to state that while Donnie said they were not arguing, the girlfriend, who was conscious when deputies arrived, said they were arguing just prior to the shooting. Wheeler’s girlfriend, according to the Sheriff’s Office, reported in August of this year that Wheeler had pulled a gun on her.

Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office reported, over four grams of meth was located at the residence on Wednesday when deputies arrived to investigate the shooting incident. Wheeler remains in custody with a bond amount set at $200,000.
