Winter Storm May Impact Upstate Travel

This loop of GFS model output shows the progression of precipitation and the track of storm center across the Southeast from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday. It is a visualization of one reasonable possibility, but should not be considered a forecast, as the model will not get every detail of the storm correct. In fact, it will likely miss several details. (Green is rain, blue is snow, orange is sleet, and purple is freezing rain) Image Source: Weather BELL
A potential winter storm could bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain to parts of the Upstate from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. The areas north of I-20, particularly around the I-85 Corridor and into Oconee, Pickens, and Anderson Counties, are at risk for hazardous road conditions, with slippery bridges and overpasses likely. While snowfall and ice amounts remain uncertain, sufficient freezing rain may strain trees and power lines in some areas. Residents should prepare for possible travel disruptions and power outages, with improving conditions expected by Sunday afternoon.
