Winter Weather Outlook: Potential Storm and Cold Temperatures

A strong winter storm system moved through, bringing light ice to the mountains and heavy rain Monday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for parts of Western North Carolina, with minor ice accumulations expected in the mountains. The Upstate did not experience ice but had a messy commute with downpours. Frigid air moves in behind the system tonight, with lows in the 20s for both the Upstate and the mountains.
After clearing Monday afternoon, winds picked up, and temperatures remained cold. A low-pressure system later this week is growing in confidence, with both the European and American models predicting snow, sleet, and ice from Friday afternoon into Saturday. The European model shows up to 4 inches in the northern Upstate, while the American model indicates a more significant impact, including snow and ice accumulations. The Canadian model predicts more ice.
Meteorologists will continue to track the storm’s progress and update the forecast as we approach the end of the week.
