Words chosen for Banishment after 2012

A new survey is out with the most commonly selected words uttered in 2012 to be banished from the English lexicon.  Lake Superior State University in Michigan produces the annual list of words that should be banished. School spokesperson Tom Pink says the chart-topping word this year is very topical.  “Fiscal cliff and that doesn’t surprise me that people are picking that when you are talking to them because that was the biggest nomination this year.” Pink explains why people want to ban fiscal cliff.  “People are so tired of it, there’s stories being written around it, you know, how to survive the fiscal cliff.” Many of the words selected for banishment this year deal with the economy and politics, says Pink. “Fiscal cliff, double-down, kick the can down the road, job creators and job creation; those all came from politics this year, whenever we have a presidential election, you see that.” Passion and passionate, you only live once, spoiler alert, the bucket list and trending round out the top 10 words or phrases selected to be banished in 2013.
