Work Continues to Recover Body of Pilot from Plane Crash

The body of a pilot remains in a Beechcraft B55 submerged in about 120 feet of water in Lake Hartwell after it crashed Saturday afternoon near Elrod Ferry and the Long Point Recreation Area off Old Highway 29 near Hartwell, Georgia. Hart County Sheriff’s Captain Chris Carroll said that divers located the pilot’s remains after a remote operated vehicle was able to confirm there was a person inside…

Right now, officials said the pilot was the only occupant and that they are looking at different options to lift the plane, including air bags or even a crane.

The NTSB said that the pilot departed Punta Gorda, Florida that morning and had clearance to land at the Anderson Regional Airport. The federal agency said they are working with both a salvage company and the insurance company on recovery efforts. They added that a preliminary report may be available in about two weeks, and it could take up to two years to determine the cause of the crash and complete their investigation.
