Yard Signs congratulating Summer Readers in OC

As we begin another school year in Oconee County motorist may notice something a little different around bus stops, yard signs congratulating students who read during the summer.  The yard signs are something new the Oconee County Public Library is doing this year to draw attention to those students who enjoyed a book this summer, explains Oconee County Public Library Publicity Director and Seneca Branch Manager Blair Hinson.  “Something unique that we started doing this year, I don’t know if maybe you have seen some of the yard signs out and about in various neighborhoods.  I know people have noticed those and I think it is nice to see that out.  The yard signs read; “A summer reading champion lives here.”  So, it is nice to see our colors and our kids are out there getting the reading done and turning in their reading logs and all that kind of stuff.” More of the community participated in the summer reading program this year, adds Hinson. “It seems to get better every year and I think it was probably, I mean I don’t have hard numbers yet, but I think it was one of our more successful.  We had some great programs this year.” Hinson concludes by saying that just because the summer reading program is over that does not mean that there is nothing going on at the Oconee County Public Library. “Our summer reading program goes from early literacy all the way up through adults, so there is always something for everybody, but just because summer reading is over and we transition into the school year, it is definitely not over.  We just pivot right on to doing everything having tutors come in and set up in the libraries to some new things.” To learn more about what is going on at the Oconee County Public Library check out their website at ww1.youseemore.com/oconee.
