10th Circuit Solicitor Comments On Sentencing Of Seneca Man On Two Counts Of Murder In General Sessions Court

(Seneca, SC)———As we reported yesterday on 94.1 The Lake from the Oconee County Courthouse in Walhalla, 20 year old Steven Reynolds was sentenced to 35 years in prison, without the possibility of parole, on two counts of Murder and one count of Armed Robbery in relation to the shooting deaths of Tim Caldwell and David Tranah at an address on Padgett Street on the Utica Mill Hill in September of 2018.

Reynolds also pled guilty to one count of Malicious Injury to Personal Property in an unrelated incident in which Reynolds caused damage to a vehicle that belonged to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

After yesterday’s announcement of the negotiated plea deal in court, 10th Circuit Solicitor David Wagner commented on the sentencing of Reynolds.

“We felt like it was a fair deal based on the circumstances,” said Solicitor Wagner. “When you’ve got both parties involved in a criminal enterprise like drugs and that sort of thing, it does complicate prosecution. We do get a number of those from time to time.”

“35 years is a long time. You gotta do murders day for day in South Carolina,” according to Wagner. “But, he’s not going to be out for a long, long time. He’s (Reynolds) has been a problem over the last few years and we’re glad he’s off the streets and will no longer be a problem for a long time.”

Wagner also commented on the prosecution of multiple other defendants who were charged by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office for their role in the case.

“They’re are still pending and being that they’re still pending, I can’t comment anymore on that, but we are still working on their cases and hope to resolve those soon,” according to Solicitor Wagner.
