2016 Mayberry Open Golf Tournament nearing

The 2016 Mayberry Open Golf Tournament, a fundraising tournament to benefit Crime Stoppers of Oconee County, Inc., is about seven weeks away and there are still many ways to get involved in this great event, says Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt, who is the Sheriff’s Office Coordinator of Crime Stoppers. “In 2015, Crime Stoppers of Oconee County, Inc. paid out over $2,000 in tips that helped to lead to arrests and/or helped to clear cases that law enforcement was investigating. Since Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization, we would not have been able to pay out cash for tips that lead to arrest without the support of those who are partnering with us, which includes their support for our yearly golf tournament.” The Mayberry Open is scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at Oconee Country Club in Seneca. Registration begins at 10:30am with a noon shotgun start. Chick-fil-A in Seneca provides lunch before the tournament and Little Pigs Barbeque provides supper afterwards. The tournament also features a closest to the pin and longest drive contest, along with our traditional hole in one contest on the par-3 6th hole that will pay $500 to anyone who scores a hole in one on that hole. The field consists of 4-man Captain’s Choice teams and limited to 25 teams or 100 players. The cost per player is $60 or $240 for a team. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each. Businesses, organizations and individuals can also contribute by donating door prizes for the golfers who participate. If anyone would like information on the tournament, including how to sign up a team, become a hole sponsor or donate door prizes, contact Jimmy Watt at 864-638-4199. Tournament sign up forms are also available at Oconee Country Club in Seneca. Those who are interested in fielding a team can do so via a mobile marketing program available through Oconee Country Club provided by Campbell and Partners by texting the keyword CRIME to short code 63975. From there, you will receive a text back with a link to a mobile registration site. Once you click on that link, you will be taken to a website where you can register your teams as well as receive more information about the tournament.
