Oconee County Council Approves Action Items, Including Six Fire Trucks

(Seneca, SC)——————–During the Tuesday night Oconee County Council meeting, Council approved several action items, including the purchase of six fire trucks with loose equipment in an amount to exceed over $2 million dollars.

Oconee Fire Chief Charlie King says the six fire trucks are replacing three fire trucks that were budgeted for last year and the three additional trucks for this year that have reached their 25 year mark for service.

King said that all of the trucks will be going to volunteer stations with the exception of one that will be provided to Walhalla and the Camp Road facility.

“The trucks are replaced in our capital replacement plan. Engines are replaced on a twenty year plan and put into a five year reserve,” says Chief King.

The Chief said that they are required to keep eight fully equipped, ready spare trucks in reserve and each time a truck is purchased, the one it replaces is moved into a reserve status and the 25 year truck is moved out.

The six that are replaced will move into a five year reserve status and the reserves will help to maintain a dependable front line status.

Among the other action items approved by County Council, they include the purchase of a new electric service for the Mobile Mine Duty Crushing Plant that was purchased in June of last year, the purchase of Michelin tires for County vehicle’s from Super Service in Walhalla and a 911 Server Environment Upgrade for the E-911 Communications Center.
